While We Slept, Someone Tried to Get into Our House
He stole our food
If he wanted something to eat, he could’ve asked for food at a decent hour. But no, he tried to get inside without an invitation.
I read an article about how some burglars sneak into houses while the residents sleep. The burglars attach an object to your lock, such as a magnet, to prevent it from connecting. They do that when you’re at home with your door unlocked.
When you get ready for bed, you think you locked your door. But it remained unlocked because a burglar set you up for an easy break in.
That’s not the technique the thief used at my house, though. He did it the old-fashioned way.
He climbed a fence and tried to raise my mother’s bedroom window.
The next morning, Mom told me he made so much noise that it woke her from a sound sleep. She peeped out the window. The man saw her and ran. Mom thinks it was the crack head thief who used to live in the garage behind us.
“Why would anyone make that much noise at my window?” she wondered. “He disturbed my sleep.” Little is more important to Mom than getting 10 hours of quality sleep at night and napping during the day.
