Thanks for this interesting post, Rebecca. In my family, Barbie was just another doll. At the time, no doll resembled anyone I knew. Maybe that's why I preferred board games, books, and BB guns.
Diversity came to the neighborhood when my family moved into it. I guess our temporary neighbors would've preferred us to look more Barbie-esque, lol. So, beneath the stars, houses rapidly emptied., and people who looked like me bought them.
