…18 to 26 say they are choosing pets over parenthood. The U.S. fertility rate is at an all-time low. Millennials cite the expense and trouble of having kids, along with climate change, as reasons they prefer pets. But pets aren’t that cheap, because Americans spent $136.8 billion on their pets in 2022.
