Is the shelter in place order putting extra pounds on you?

Are you participating in the quarantine 15? I decided against it.

The quarantine 15? You know, the 15 pounds most people are expected to gain during the Covid19 pandemic. It’s likened to the 15 pounds many freshmen gain during their first year in college while away from home.

It’s common for people to eat more when they’re scared, bored and have pantries overflowing with snacks. People use food as a coping mechanism. It relaxes them. And we all need to release tension as we work our way through this crisis.

But have you seen stories online suggesting that you ignore the possibility of gaining weight as you shelter in place? Some nutritionists encourage you to consume as much food as it takes to comfort you through the crisis.

Don’t let anyone convince you to use the pandemic as an excuse to add extra pounds to your body. If anything, do what you can to build your immune system and to stay as healthy as possible.

I understand the need for comfort. However reckless nutritional advice is not good for anyone. There is not much that I can control about Covid19. But I have complete control over what I put into my mouth.
