Can you imagine females having to lower their heads and curtsy to boys in their class? What about being told to obey the boys’ reasonable requests? That was only a portion of a chivalry assignment recently given to high school students in a Lubbock, Texas classroom.

I remember requests that boys made when I was in high school. But I can’t recall a reasonable request in the bunch.

According to a magazine article, the teacher wanted to demonstrate how medieval customs carry over into today’s society.

Females in the class were given 11 rules for the Chivalry Day assignment. Besides having to curtsy and perform “reasonable requests”, the rules included:

“Ladies must dress in a feminine manner to please the men (Must be in school dress code).”

“Ladies must not initiate conversations with males (with the exception of male teachers).”

“Ladies must walk behind men daintily, as if their feet were bound.”

“Outside the classroom, ladies cannot show intellectual superiority if it would offend the men around them.” — Chivalry homework assignment
